AI marketing automation: where to start
AI marketing automation starts with deciding what to automate, not with picking tools. Get the order wrong and an expensive tool ends up producing a daily report nobody reads.
1. Find the repetitive work
Write down what your marketing team actually did for one week. A surprising share of time usually goes to things like:
- Copying results from each ad platform into a spreadsheet
- Rewriting the same product's ad copy to fit each channel's format
- Routing incoming inquiries to the right person
Of these, work that has clear rules, repeats often and can be undone if it goes wrong is your first automation candidate.
2. Set the metrics first
"AI will make us more efficient" is not a metric. Decide the numbers you'll compare before and after.
- Hours spent writing reports each week
- Time to produce one ad creative
- Time for an inquiry to reach the right person
3. Keep an approval step
AI-written copy and reports are drafts. Build a human check into the process for brand tone, ad review rules and facts. In finance and virtual assets especially, a single phrase can cause trouble, so the review step is essential.
The goal of automation isn't to remove people. It's to give them more time for judgment.
